PRESSURE & FLOW CONTROL

How an insufflator works

Maintain working space—not just flow.

Controlled gas delivery creates and maintains the laparoscopic working space.

THE PRINCIPLE

How it works

An insufflator delivers carbon dioxide for laparoscopic procedures. Pressure and flow describe different things: pressure relates to the working space, while flow is the rate of gas delivery. The system monitors and regulates delivery; tubing, ports and leakage affect actual performance.

01

Create a controlled working cavity

A CO₂ insufflator establishes and maintains the working space used in laparoscopic procedures. Pressure and flow have distinct roles; a maximum flow rating is a capacity, not an instruction for use.

02

Evaluate the whole gas pathway

The supply, tubing, filter and access ports form one delivery pathway. Ask how the proposed system monitors pressure, responds to leakage and reports obstructions or supply faults.

03

Specify smoke management separately

Smoke evacuation, heating and humidification are configuration-dependent features. A combined platform may offer them, but its required tubing and compatible accessories should be confirmed.

BEFORE YOU CHOOSE

Ask the right questions.

Assess the exact scope, camera, processor, accessories and service package you will receive. A demonstration should use that configuration.

  • Pressure-control behaviour and response to leaks.
  • Alarm handling, gas-supply monitoring and overpressure protection.
  • Compatibility with filters, tubing and smoke evacuation.
  • Supported procedure modes and manufacturer training.

Frequently asked questions

Does higher flow mean higher operating pressure?

Not necessarily. They are different control parameters; review how the device regulates each.

Is the highest flow rating always best?

No. Evaluate control, recovery, compatibility and safety behaviour for the intended use.

Are heating and smoke evacuation standard?

They depend on the model and configuration. Confirm what is included in the quotation.
